MAYA

This is Maya, the other child that I care for. She will be 2 in September. We usually spend 2 days a week together. Lately a those days have been spent at a local playground that is shaded with great water features or at the wading pool by MGH (downtown Boston).
In the 3rd picture we are on the T (subway for you out of towners) headed to the pool. She loves riding the "choo choo." Last picture...sometimes the water is a little chilly!

Water Country

So this is a little old (from July 4th), but still. Lisa, me, Lars, and Joa spent the day at Water Country and here are some pictures. The first one is Lars going down with Lisa. I am standing in the water at the end with a million kids running around hoping that I can get a picture without sacrificing my camera. #2 needs no explination, it's just totally beautiful. #3 Lars and I hit the tubes after getting special permission to use this on-the only kind that worked for him-in the pool thing. #4 Lars took many opportunities during the day to rest. Yes, that's yogurt on his face....just to prove that he has been eating some BY MOUTH!!!!!!!

MUST READ

I don't care if you are male, female, or somewhere in between you MUST read this book. It is on my summer reading list on the edge of my blog and called PERFECT GIRLS, STARVING DAUGHTERS. Maybe you are one of the very few people that have no faults with your body and have never questioned what you ate (or wanted to but didn't) and how you looked. Hmmm.....even if you said "Yes, that's me" I don't know that I believe you. No matter where you fall on the spectrum you HAVE TO READ this. The subtitle is "the normalcy of hating your body." Courtney E. Martin, author, really nails the issues of eating and body image through a book of interviews, research, and her own experience. No one young or old gets away with avoiding these issues. Maybe you don't have a diagnosed eating disorder, but you have to read this and if you still don't feel like it fits you, send me a note. For me, it was frighteningly dead on.
