Brendan!

This is the son of a couple that had Ed and I over to a dinner party earlier this month. He was ADORABLE! We played the whole time while the adults talked. I taught him to put his arms out and yell TA DAH! It was pretty fun. Posted by Picasa

What I'm Up To

Today and for the next 3 days I am doing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention. This is all for my intern site. Today we learned how to get out of situations where a client is grabbing your arm (with 1 arm or 2), pulling your hair, biting you, or putting in a choke hold. We also learned how to do a standing hold of an escalated client. A lot of it were things that are learned in self-defense. Nothing wrong with learning that!

The purpose of TCI is to provide a crisis prevention and intervention model for residential child care facilities which will assist an organization in:
Preventing crises from occurring
De-escalating potential crises
Effectively managing acute crisis phases
Reducing potential and actual injury to children and staff
Learning constructive ways to handle stressful situations
Developing a learning circle within the organization

CONGRATS!

Congratulations to Scott for killing his first deer this season. I would like to say that I am proud of this, but it really freaks me out.

Breaking News

NEW YORK — A small aircraft crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side, raining down debris on Manhattan and unleashing what witnesses reported was a gigantic fireball, police said.

The aircraft struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street, said Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.

"There's huge pieces of debris falling," said one witness who refused to give her full name. "There's so much falling now, I've got to get away."

Whether anyone was injured was not known, and it was unclear if the crash was an act of terrorism.

The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street — a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

No matter your faith or religion, take a moment of your time to stop and say a prayer for the people that are involved in this. Whether they are the fire fighters, media, or people that live and work in the building they all need support.

salem-part 3

I didn't pay to go in, but here's the sign for the House of Seven Gables. If you haven't heard of this then you have some reading to catch up on!

This is a really old building that was used as "a house for aged women" sounds cozy, huh?

Another really old house

ONE of the yarn shops. Can you believe that I made it out of there and didn't buy anything?!

Salem, Mass.

Here are some pictures from my recent trip to Salem. Yep, this is the town where the witch trials took place. You can imagine how busy they get around Halloween. There were plenty of people there checking it out. It was amazing to see things that I have read about and houses that have been there since the 1600s.

the cemetary is described in the picture below it.
