Sunday Stroll

I started at SOWA and ended up walking through various parts of Boston including China Town and Downtown Crossing.

the first set of tees

my latest...

So, I have been doing some sewing. It feels weird to say that, it doesn't really feel good enough to be called sewing. However, the things that I have made have turned out a pretty cute. This is something I finished today. It's a tee for my friend's daughter. The bottom of the K is a little funky, but hey, it's handmade.

Boston traffic

I love Boston, but the traffic can be a nightmare. Thursday I left my office to go to a friend's house. The distance (thank you google maps) was 9.3 miles. Boston traffic + 9.3 miles = close to 2 hours. This wasn't a holiday weekend, there wasn't a snow storm, no 30 car pile up. Nope, just a thursday afternoon at rush hour. Scroll down to see the shots I snapped along the way.

Here are the photos I snapped while sitting in traffic. Don't be too hard on them, they were out of my car window!

Job Update

Someone recently asked me how my job was going. I thought about it and could only say how much I love it. But, i realize it's more than love. When I think of my job it feels more appropriate to say honored. I am honored to hear the first words of a toddler with a speech delay. I am honored to see a former micro preemie (born @ 25 weeks and weighing just over a pound) roll over and grab at toys. I am honored to see an infant with significantly severe brain damage eat from a spoon. I am honored to see a young toddler with severe global delays, cerebral palsey, and a g-tube drink from a bottle and "dance" when I sing songs. I am honored to help a family who just moved here from Ethiopia find resources in the community for their daughter (thanks to the translator!). Last, but so far from least, I am honored that families allow me to come into their homes (or the shelters they are living in) week after week and help them during some of the hardest times they have ever faced.
Sure it isn't all wonderful and perfect. Days are hard and long, I don't make a lot of money, and the paperwork never stops. Trudging in and out houses in the rain, 90 degree humid weather, and eventually during New England winters gets old. However, those things are so minor compared to everything else...especially after a few cups of coffee between visits.=)
Now tell me what you like about your job!

Today it came. I am official. Don't mind the green paper, I didn't want all of my info out there for all to see.

skies

Walking out of Whole Foods I found this awesome rainbow. The picture doesn't do it justice. It was HUGE. The second picture was when I was sitting at a stop light. I just liked the way the sky looked. The final two were taken off of my friend Wendy's balcony Thursday night.

Today was included a trip to SOWA (an open market in Boston's Sound End). It's awesome! The first picture is of Shanna modeling a hat from one of the artists. We wandered the market, had lunch at Rocca, and then I wandered and did some photo taking.

Saturday included an impromtu trip to Maine. Here are some pictures from that.

Homemade

For a Saturday evening cookout I made 2 things that I had been meaning to try. The first was an awesome corn and tomato salad with scallions and a light olive oil dressing. The other was homemade dill pickles. Both were wicked easy to do. This is a short cut way to make pickles and takes only a few hours. I got the recipe last year at the farmers' market. Both of these items were a hit!
Recipes available by request =)
