Sweet Potato Soup

I just made sweet potato soup. It was very easy and is super yummy! The photos are after & during.
In case you are interested, here's the recipe!
You need:
1 1/2 cups plain yogurt
2 tbsp olive oil
1 large sweet onion, sliced
2 tsp ground cumin
3 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 1/2 qt. veggie broth
2 tbsp chopped parsely

1. In a soup pot heat oil. Add onions & cumin and saute 3-4 mins. Add potatoes & broth & bring to a boil. Reduce heat & simmer for 25-30 mins.
2. Puree with 1 1/2 cups yogurt & parsley. (A stick blender works perfect to do this right in the pot!)

It says that it makes 12 servings, but I'd say more like 8. It's worth doubling and freezing some!

A rainy day brought major closet purging and re-organization. It was LONG overdue.

Adoption Day!

November 20th is national adoption day each year. This year I got to celebrate in a big way. Two of my friends adopted the toddlers that they have been fostering for almost a year. I cried like a baby in the court room. It was a crazy day. I am so honored to have been there to share in it and to be aunt shells to Kiko and Kyizha. Congrats to their moms! The first picture is of their other baby, Gracie

Really? Whitney?

So I watched Whitney Houston's performance on the American Music Awards just now. I LOVED her in the 80s. L.O.V.E.D. Something about the music and her powerful voice that I really was into. However, pretty much most of her career she has been on drugs....like really bag drugs. After the song they gave her this major achievement award. This is what we are rewarding? Don't get me wrong, I am very empathetic to the struggles that people face in their lives and. Hello, I'm a therapist! However, as a musician I'm kinda sad that that's what the industry is choosing to reward.

I got it

Today I got the pig shot. H1N1, that is. I am in the high risk category as a health care worker that has a large infant case load. It was a really hard decision for me to make. The only reason that I actually got it was that many of my babies aren't old enough to get it, so I figured that I should get it on their behalf. I have to say that it was kind of painful going in! We'll see if it actually works.

Sunday in Boston

I ended up not babysitting because one of the kids was sick. Instead I used one of their parking spots and wandered around downtown Boston. Theses are some pictures from that stroll.

HUH?

I'm not a huge tv watcher, but I have had it on tonight. There have been 2 different shows that used homosexuality as a joke. Maybe I am feeling a little sensitive today, but come on. It's funny to joke about being gay? Really? I don't get it.
Admitting to myself that I am a lesbian was a really hard process. Admitting that to others was even harder. How are television shows, movies, and other forms of entertainment seeing it as a way to get laughs?
It is funny to hear that you are going to hell because you are being true to yourself? It is funny that there are people out there hiding their sexualities becuase they are afraid of being harassed or worse?

Where was michelle?

This past weekend I was in NYC! It was AWESOME! My pals ed and jody were keeping the marathon and all its workers in check by being head of ALL communications for the marathon. I, of course, enjoyed some perks. Those included staying in an awesome hotel in times sq for free, going in all the behind the scene places of the marathon, and (as seen in the picture) riding around central park in the "official vehicle". It was a blast!
