Sigh...

Some of the children that I work with in early intervention have the diagnosis of autism. Austism has been made very public in the last few years. What is bothering to me is the untrue "facts" that are out there. No matter what people say, autism is not "curable." It is very true that improvements can be made through intense work and therapy-especially music therapy! However, these children are not cured. If you have autism, you have autism. It may be hard for others to be able to tell, depending on the level of functioning. But PLEASE do not believe the current talk-espeically from celebrities-that autism can be cured. How about we focus on the wonderful therapies that are out there for these wonderfully amazing kids.

survival musts.....

I have spent the entire day in the Lesley library. I thought that I would share two of the things that keep me going.
1. Starbucks grande mocha, 2 pump, skim, and no whip
2. Earth's Best Organic Crunchin' Crackers

I'm a shopper, but come on...

Anyone knows me knows that I am very for Obama and very aginst the other. I want to keep the rights I have, thank you. Also, there is a reason that church and state are divided.
As much as I love shopping, this is just discusting. Read all about it.

Topsfield Fair

If you are from the midwest, this is not a fair. If you are from the east coast, it's what you think a fair is. Hardly any animals. There was a small barn of rabbits. It was a nice reminder just how allergic I am. Within the first minute I was itching, sneezing, and my allergic asthma was kicking in.
Pictures:
1. Sand sculpture
2. The biggest pumpkin!
3. I love alpacas
4. I thought of my girls when I saw this....it was a slushy machine!!!!! Probably the biggest one I have ever seen

Well, the first part is started.....

Tonight I emailed the first draft of my thesis introdection to my peer group members. I feel sorry for them, because I think it is really bad. I guess that's why it's a draft. This picture was what I was feeling most of the day.
In addition to the thesis I am working on the presentation that I will give at an upcoming conference, and two other papers. Oh, and I am running a full session with a client by myself tomorrow for the first time. It is a one hour session. I hope I can get any sleep tonight! Lots of coffee in the morning I'm sure.

It's Lars!

These are from Monday. Lars did such a good job in the stander and stood for 45 minutes! The wrapper snapper toys were a huge hit, as was the yellow squishy. His shirt is definately him....amazing.

here you go Kim

Kim pointed out to me that I never put up a picture of my new bed (from July). Right she is. So, here it is. This is my bed. She is wonderful. I wish we could spend more time together. I was going to make it all nice and pretty, but that is almost never how it is. So this is her, in her natural state.
Also thought that I would throw in this great picture of a rainbow. This was on Monday when Lars and I were out on a walk.

Here we go again...

This past Friday I had the most interesting outing with Lars yet. We had entered Natick mall and he was fussing. I pulled over the edge of the aisle as to not be right out in the middle of everything. The first thing I wanted to do was see if his belly needed venting. Now, for me this is an everyday occurance but I can understand how it might seem like something interesting to others. However, there are ways to be polite and act like you have been in public before. I pull out a large syringe and connect his G-tube. A woman, maybe 50 or 60 years old, walked over to us. She stood about a foot from Lars and me and stared...I'm not even sure she was blinking. After a few cc's of air were succesfully sucked out, Lars felt much better and had calmed down. The lady? Still there, staring. I was unsure of what to say or what her deal was. Finally I told her to have a nice day and pushed Lars in the other direction.
Moral of the story????
When you see a child with disabilities, don't just stand there and stare like it is a science exibit. They are a person. Maybe they aren't like you or anyone you know, but they are a person in the world, too. If you really are curious, talk to them. Say hi, even if you don't think that they can talk back. You might just meet the most amazing person ever. That's who I met in Lars.

Walden Pond

Julez and I spent some time today at Walden Pond. Yes, the place made famous by Henry David Thoreau. It got windy and a bit chilly, so we ended up leaving. The leaf changing hasn't totally made it to this part of New England yet.
This is tonight's moon. This picture doesn't begin to do it justice.
