Job Update

Someone recently asked me how my job was going. I thought about it and could only say how much I love it. But, i realize it's more than love. When I think of my job it feels more appropriate to say honored. I am honored to hear the first words of a toddler with a speech delay. I am honored to see a former micro preemie (born @ 25 weeks and weighing just over a pound) roll over and grab at toys. I am honored to see an infant with significantly severe brain damage eat from a spoon. I am honored to see a young toddler with severe global delays, cerebral palsey, and a g-tube drink from a bottle and "dance" when I sing songs. I am honored to help a family who just moved here from Ethiopia find resources in the community for their daughter (thanks to the translator!). Last, but so far from least, I am honored that families allow me to come into their homes (or the shelters they are living in) week after week and help them during some of the hardest times they have ever faced.
Sure it isn't all wonderful and perfect. Days are hard and long, I don't make a lot of money, and the paperwork never stops. Trudging in and out houses in the rain, 90 degree humid weather, and eventually during New England winters gets old. However, those things are so minor compared to everything else...especially after a few cups of coffee between visits.=)
Now tell me what you like about your job!

I love being retired, but I do remember special things like that. Yesterday I saw a former student on the golf course and was amazed at how he had matured over the six years. Quite a young gentleman, if I do say so myself! You can see the rewards of your music and loving touch over shorter periods of time - keep at it - we all love you for it!

The key to a happy life is finding something you love. You have found that "something" and are touching so many lives. The career is rewarding for all of you. When you do something you love, it is never a job. I am so proud.
love,

I love that my kids aren't at my job and that I get to interact with adults and feel like I actually make a difference in this world.
I LOVE that you love your job.
